Our Kokum Butter is crafted specially for discerning formulators who have prior experience using seed oils and butters extracted via traditional processes. We import our Kokum Butter from silviculture farmers in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, India. Traditional physical extraction of seed butters does not involve any chemical solvents.
- Silviculture & Provenance: Garcinia Indica trees or simply Kokum (pronounced: Ko-kam) trees have been growing for eons in the wild, in and around the western coast of India. Kokum trees in these pristine regions of India, thrive without the use of chemical fertilisers, insecticides and pesticides. Cottage level low scale silviculture based cultivation of Kokum is mainly confined to the hilly areas near this long scenic coastline.
- Composition & Instructions: Unrefined Kokum Butter is one of the most stable and hard vegetable butters. Melt in a bain-marie to use it neat or whip the melted liquid in your DIY creations. Another peculiar feature which makes it popular among formulators of cosmetic products is that Kokum Butter remains in a solid state at room temperature, but melts on contact with the skin. Its triglyceride composition is uniform, and consists of up to 80% of stearic-oleic-stearic (SOS) triglycerides.
- Why Is It Expensive?: Traditional physical extraction yields only about 25% of Unrefined Kokum Butter. On the other hand, the use of chemical solvents in the extraction process increases the yield to as high as 44%. The resulting chemically refined butter is less expensive. DIY products which solely harness our truly unrefined Kokum Butter can be classified as natural, pure, unbleached, non-deodorized & non-neutralised.
